"Top Cab" Defined.

In Late 1999 I drove a Boston Cab for the first time and when I turned on the Boston Cab radio the first thing I ever heard a Boston Cab company dispatcher say was " Gimmie the Top Cab At Perkins". On a Boston Cab radio a Boston Cabbie can only hear the dispatcher talking not the other drivers so I have no idea what this dispatcher heard back from the drivers but he must have not liked it as the next thing I heard was " I said TOP who is TOP at Perkins? " This angry cigar chewing man was trying to find out who was the first cab in line on the Perkins square Boston Cab stand in South Boston Ma. You see the first cab in line at a cab stand is entitled to the closest/next  job. In the Nomenclature or "common parlance" of a Boston Cabbie , "Top Cab" means the first in line.
